Rules for RP on Hall of the Gods
The biggest rule of all, and we've all done it, but NO meta-gaming. You can't know every detail about a person upon first meeting them.
1. The deadline is 3 days. If you do not post within that time, the others in the thread may post, and “drag your character along” without waiting for you. If the timeline moves along whilst you are gone, you will have to post according to the current RP “day”.
2. Post as soon as possible and within the deadline unless there is a good reason, in which case advise the other participants of that thread.
3. READ the whole post; don't just skim it. This ensures that responses and actions tie-in to the previous posts. In order to make it easier for those who have been at work, uni, or busy all day, let's keep the posts to a reasonable length, and split into paragraphs for easier reading. Hopefully, this will help stop the skim-reading.
4. Tied in with the above rule: don't skip the story ahead without first checking with all other participants.
5. You can only take actions that affect your character. If you want to write a big scene then go ahead, but let the other characters follow in their own fashion, don't drag them along with you. Alternatively, if your scene is going to affect other characters then discuss with the other participants first.
6. In line with number 5, if you wish to write a post that will involve another person's RP character(s), whether current or past characters, please consult with them before using the said character(s).
7. The OP is in charge. The OP is leading the story/scenario; you've joined it to enhance the story. Just think of it as a game of D&D perhaps, and OP is the DM.
Note to Rule 7: Your character will not be a background person who reacts to everything in the thread. If you do wish to have an awesome battle-scene with your character, perhaps consider opening another thread and reference in the OP’s thread. Other posters may consider having their characters join yours for this epic battle. Also, a really good suggestion has been made about categorising the thread. To make things simple...
A) Linear: Characters should be written with the mindset that they will go and follow the OP's story with little other motivation than what accounts for the OP's MC's goal. You can still be against whatever goal this is, but don't bring a zealot to a let's-blow-up-the-Chantry mission.
B) Fluid: Characters can betray, backstab, lie, and do other things that don't align with the OP's goal. Subplots are allowed but try to keep it within the frame of the narrative. If Silver wants to find Andraste's Golden Dildo but your character is a Templar that wants to stop them, then that's fine as long as your character isn't just using this story in order to fund his war against the Alamarri in another grand quest.
C) Free for All: The OP is running away from the Carta but you're actually from the Carta and you want the OP, however, the OP doesn't know this yet whilst at the same time another character has come with an army to invade Orzammar from another hidden Thaig which was lost to the world but somehow managed to survive.
So in a nutshell: Linear is more the OP moves the story, Fluid is that the OP starts the story but it moves according to where the players take it, Free for All is just the OP going "fuck it, here's a location, burn it to the ground for all I care"
8. Smut should be tagged, and preferably only used when it's related to the story.
And just to reiterate the original rules that are still in place:
9. No God Modding
10. You can freely make use of NPC's
11. Ensure you write your character's name at the start of the post, or insert your banner.
12. To ensure continuity in style please write in First Person. Character Chronicles can be written in any style.
