Bollocks, I could be an idiot sometimes. Of course, Kit could hear seeing as Rory had spoken to her a number of times. I can only blame the memories of Amelia for my lapse in common sense. I gave a nod to show I'd heard and returned the smile and wave I received from Kit. So far, out of everyone in this group, these two were turning out be firm favourites, admittedly, the standards weren't so high: Shade was a grumpy git, Saris was an amateur from what I'd heard so far, and Livia was rude and possibly egotistical. Maker, was the coin worth this? I didn't even know how much we'd get or if we'd get anything. With Garnot being as paranoid as he was, I could only assume he'd have people in his employment who would keep their ears to the ground, so it might even be that he'd be prepared for the theft. I sighed and instead turned my attention to everyone's set of skills. When Saris formed an icicle along with a vine, I just barely refrained from rolling my eyes. A flashy mage. Great, just what we need for a robbery. After Rory, Shade spoke next. 'Lockpicking, spotting traps, stealth, the usual things you'd expect from a rogue.' I spared a glance. He sounded as annoyed as I felt. I bit my lip as guilt stabbed me, knowing my own words might have something to do with his disposition. Come to think of it, might have something to do with my own sourness. I really needed to apologise. When he'd finished speaking, I offered my own brief resume. 'I'm a mage, so spotting and dispelling wards, magical barriers, and so on, also using ice magic to break locks, though, with so many picklocks in the group, that skill seems rather moot for this job. No healing skills, but I'm skilled in alchemy and can whip up a batch of regen potions, or even some healing mist if anyone needs it. On the other end of the alchemy scale, I also make grenades. I've occasionally used the smoke ones as distractions; hopefully, we won't need them here.'

Livia was the first to respond, but I wasn't sure how her hand-to-hand style of fighting would help against guards in full armor. As for her tricks, that was vague enough as to mean nearly anything, so that didn't inspire much confidence in her combative ability. I had the distinct impression that if we had to fight out, she would simply vanish and leave us to our own devices. But then, perhaps the same could be said for everyone in this group as I'd only met them the previous night. Her claim of breaking into magister estates caught my attention, though. Her accent hinted at being Tevinter-born, but for what I knew she could simply have been Fereldan or Nevarran as their accents could sound similar at times. Still, her ability to break into magister estates, if true, was impressive and could be very useful in Garnot's estate. As for Shade, his skills were about what I'd assumed, and he was very much to the point with his capabilities, though now I was sure that he was frustrated- likely about the lack of information for this heist. I understood, of course- if I were him, I would have turned around and rode back to Jader already, but he stuck around. Talon admitted to being a mage as well, which was a bit of a surprise to me considering his choice of weapon. Still, his skill with alchemy could be very useful, especially the smoke grenades he claimed he could brew. Perhaps it could be used as a trick outside of combat, to draw away guards? If necessary, I'd suggest it, but we would have to learn more about the guards' patrols first. I doubted he had many of those grenades to spare. I took out the map I had of Orlais and looked over it to figure out where we were now. It seemed like we still had a ways to go, but thankfully Garnot's estate wasn't on the opposite side of Halamshiral. We wouldn't need to pass through the city before we turned off the road for the estate. I looked around a moment to make sure I'd been right about where we were before folding the map and putting it away. "Alright, since we seem to have three rogues, we have a better chance of finding a clear path through the estate. When we arrive, we will wait until dark to lower the risk of being detected." I looked over Shade, Livia, and Kit. "Once it's dark, Livia and Kit will make their way to the highest unguarded point in the estate they can find and watch the patrols- Shade, you will watch their backs and deal with any guards that need to be dealt with. I will leave the specifics up to you." I looked over to Talon next. "Talon and I will try to extinguish any braziers that are in your path to give you the best chance of being undetected- the guards will likely investigate once they notice the flames go out, so we will need to be quick." Then I looked over at Rory. "Rory, I'll need you to keep an eye out for anything that could complicate our plans. Guards, animals, bandits- anything." I paused for a moment, remembering that Rory and Kit seemed to communicate with hand gestures. "Come to think of it, perhaps Kit could relay what she and Livia sees back to you- once they're in position and Shade is watching them, Talon and I won't need to focus on the braziers." I looked over the group one more time. "Any objections?" Seemed Shade was more or less what he seemed- a rogue like Kit. The black-haired man was a surprise, though. Didn't think he was a mage, but it seemed like he preferred to fight with that weird sword of his rather than throwing spells from afar. Still, the alchemy was nice to have. I've tried it and was lucky not to burn my face off, which was even more frustrating since I was trying to brew a ice salve at the time. I noticed Saris looking over a map, then looking around to probably figure out where we were before putting it away. He explained his plan and it seemed rather detailed for someone who hadn't been able to get a hold of most of the details that we needed to pull off a heist like this. Sending Kit with me seemed a bit redundant, but I guess having another pair of eyes couldn't hurt- and it would give us a chance to chat. She seemed the quiet type, though. Reminded me of this one woman I met a while back while selling off some items I'd acquired (I could've sworn that she'd picked at least several pockets while on her way to sell whatever she'd been carrying in that pack of hers). She didn't say much to me (in fact, I don't think she said a single word), but she had this wicked look in her eye that was hard to forget. Kit didn't have that look to her, though, but then, she didn't look the type. I pushed the thought from my mind and tuned back into Saris as he looked back at the black-haired man, referring to him as "Talon". Eventually he finished detailing his plan and asked if we had any 'objections'. I thought about it for a minute. "I guess you'll want Kit, Shade, and I to come back down after we figure out the patrol routes?" He looked back at me. "Yes- the rest of us will need to be able to get into the estate as well and we will need to plan just how we're going to do that without being spotted." He looked away and was silent a moment. "I would rather we gain access to the vault tonight if possible- the longer we take the higher the chance we're found out. And in all honesty, Garnot is not an enemy I'd like to make. That's why I waited until we left Jader to tell you about the job- for all I knew, Garnot had bards in that tavern listening for someone planning something like this." I rolled my eyes. Seems like Garnot isn't the only paranoid one...

Kit listened intently as Saris gave us our instructions. She would go with Livia and Shade to case out the patrols, while he and Talon would douse any braziers that would give them away. And telling the three they would have to be quick? I was sure they would be. I was assigned to basically play guard. Kit touched my arm and echoed my thoughts. Rory, we can’t have your big lumbering ass near if we are trying to sneak in. You are good at sneaking and all, but you might get in the way. She gestured, and I thought “Rory you are an idiot.” I turned to the others. “Kit makes a good point. I don’t think it would be a good idea if I followed them; I can sneak, but not as well as they, I imagine. They will be better without me. However,” I pointed at Kit, who had pulled out a small stack of paper and a pencil, “if you phrase your question where Kit can give one- or two-word answers, you can communicate with her.” I gave her a stern look; one she knew showed I was joking. “And Kit, I do not have a big lumbering ass!” She joined my laughter.

I had no problem taking care of the guards, though I preferred not to take out innocents unless absolutely necessary. I thought about the poisons I carried and decided the best option might be a paralyzing toxin. When Rory finished speaking, I answered Saris. 'No objections as such, but I'd rather not leave a trail of dead bodies in our wake as we make our way across the estate. I occasionally have need of poisons and I have a toxin that will paralyse within seconds and leave them unable to move or speak for at the very least, 60 minutes. Hopefully, by then we should have finished the job. Of course, the main goal would be to avoid the guards and judging by the skills listed by the two ladies, that shouldn't be too much of an issue.' Talon gave a nod. 'That works for me. I have three smoke grenades and one pitch grenade. Handy for slowing people down while we escape in a cloud of smoke. I suppose if we run into guards, we can always drop a sleep spell on them.' I cast a surprised glance at Talon before looking away. I hadn't expected him to be so reluctant to take a life.

(Kit)I listened as the others made plans, told what talents they possessed, and magic means available to them. I was glad Rory told them of my note taking, so we would not have to haul his ass with us while casing the estate out. One thing I was happy to hear was neither Shade nor Talon wanted to kill anyone if they did not have to, a sentiment I wholeheartedly agreed with. Sure, if we had to kill someone to preserve the lives of the party I would; however, if we did not have to, all the better. A thought skittered across my brain briefly. Talon made regeneration potions…I wondered if it would work…? Within a second, I made up my mind. If this job went well, when we were done, I would ask Talon to help me. Maybe it would work, and maybe not, but wouldn't hurt to try. And it would make Rory happy. Talon also said he was skilled in alchemy, so he could make regen potions, and healing mist. And grenades! Now he was talking, I wanted me some grenades to throw! Distraction or not, I think it would be fun! I move up next to Talon, whose horse stood next to Rory. I pulled on his sleeve, and gestured*, smiling at him. Rory did not see since he was occupied with listening to Saris. Oh, I hope Talon realizes what I want! (Rory)Something Saris said caught my full attention, and I did not like what I heard. “I would rather we gain access to the vault tonight if possible- the longer we take the higher the chance we're found out. And in all honesty, Garnot is not an enemy I'd like to make. That's why I waited until we left Jader to tell you about the job - for all I knew, Garnot had bards in that tavern listening for someone planning something like this." Whoa, hold the horses there! He wanted us to do the job tonight?! Here we are, sitting on the main road, not knowing how long it will take to get to the estate, have to case it out, and he still he wants us to do the job tonight?! That was not going to work for me, and I hope the others agree! I spoke with concern in my voice. “Saris, just how long will it take to get to this estate? Kit, Livia and Shade will need time to case things out, and I don’t like the idea of them only being able to do a cursory look over the estate. That is all they would be able to do if they only have a couple of hours; they need to see where guards are posted, the patrol patterns, and the best way into the estate, and I don’t know about Livia or Shade, but Kit won’t agree to that. We can camp away from the estate. I would rather they travel a longer distance to the place, rather than us do the job tonight.” I looked at the other three, hoping they would agree with me. Then I noticed Kit smiling widely at Talon. What scheme did that girl have now? *OOC: Kit makes the following gesture to Talon: Points to self; indicates throwing motion; indicates “blowing up” motion; points back to self. All this with a wide smile and hopeful look.

I caught the astonished look from Shade and was rather hurt by it; I'm not sure where he got the idea that I'm a cold-blooded killer, but that glance clearly showed that's the direction in which his thoughts were running. I was thankful for the distraction provided by Kit when she tugged on my sleeve. Turning to her, I watched as she mimicked throwing something, followed by some elaborate hand movements that could only be an explosion. I laughed and gave a nod. 'Yes, you can have some of the grenades. It's a shame we don't have more time, I could have mixed up a few extra. A few more pitch grenades would be useful.' As if he'd read my thoughts, Rory spoke. “Saris, just how long will it take to get to this estate? Kit, Livia, and Shade will need time to case things out, and I don’t like the idea of them only being able to do a cursory look over the estate. That is all they would be able to do if they only have a couple of hours; they need to see where guards are posted, the patrol patterns, and the best way into the estate, and I don’t know about Livia or Shade, but Kit won’t agree to that. We can camp away from the estate. I would rather they travel a longer distance to the place, rather than us do the job tonight.” 'I second that motion. If we're going to do this right, then we need more time to case the area and make the necessary preparations. I see no reason why we need to rush; that's when mistakes happen, and people die.' Shade shifted a little in his saddle and rubbed his shoulder. 'If this man is as paranoid as you say, then we shouldn't be going in unprepared.' I smiled at Kit. 'If we get the extra time, I'll make up a batch of grenades for you.' With a wave to her, I nudged Butterscotch in the direction of Shade. The rogue's back tensed when he saw me approach, then a grimace flickered briefly across his face confirming my suspicion that his previous injury was still giving him some grief. I pulled out a health potion. 'Take this, along with my apologies for my rude behaviour this morning.' After a moment, the tension left him as did the cold look in his dark grey eyes. His fingers closed around the neck of the vial. 'Thanks and apology accepted.' I smiled and let Butterscotch drop back, deciding it would be best not to crowd him.

I nodded to Rory after he suggested using notes to communicate with Kit, then Shade spoke, "No objections as such, but I'd rather not leave a trail of dead bodies in our wake as we make our way across the estate. I occasionally have need of poisons and I have a toxin that will paralyse within seconds and leave them unable to move or speak for at the very least, 60 minutes. Hopefully, by then we should have finished the job. Of course, the main goal would be to avoid the guards and judging by the skills listed by the two ladies, that shouldn't be too much of an issue." Talon chimed in after, "That works for me. I have three smoke grenades and one pitch grenade. Handy for slowing people down while we escape in a cloud of smoke. I suppose if we run into guards, we can always drop a sleep spell on them." I looked back at Shade, "So long as the guards will not be able to report our presence until, at the very least, we have left the estate, then use whatever methods you wish. As I said, I'll leave the specifics up to you." I shifted my gaze to Talon, "As for your grenades, I would prefer to keep those in case the alarm is raised and we need a quick exit." Rory spoke up again, sounding concerned, "Saris, just how long will it take to get to this estate? Kit, Livia, and Shade will need time to case things out, and I don’t like the idea of them only being able to do a cursory look over the estate. That is all they would be able to do if they only have a couple of hours; they need to see where guards are posted, the patrol patterns, and the best way into the estate, and I don’t know about Livia or Shade, but Kit won’t agree to that. We can camp away from the estate. I would rather they travel a longer distance to the place, rather than us do the job tonight." Talon followed, agreeing with Rory, "I second that motion. If we're going to do this right, then we need more time to case the area and make the necessary preparations. I see no reason why we need to rush; that's when mistakes happen, and people die." And then, Shade commented too, "If this man is as paranoid as you say, then we shouldn't be going in unprepared." I sighed inwardly, a bit frustrated at the state of things already. At least we had time to straighten everything out before we reached the estate, but I supposed it was my own fault for not having all the info I needed for this heist. "According to the directions I have, we will likely arrive by evening. And as I said, it was my preference that we reach the vault tonight if possible. I do not expect it nor do I demand it, but if you all believe we should wait to make our approach to the vault, then we shall do so." I rolled my head back and let out a long exhale in annoyance. This elf was hoping for some sort of miracle if he wanted to get into the vault tonight. "I'm with them," I started, rolling my neck. "There's no way that we can get into the vault when we don't even know how many guards there are, let alone where the vault is. I'm good, but not that good." At least Saris said we should arrive by evening, which meant we wouldn't have that long to wait until dark once we got to the estate, but we still needed to ride there and it sounded like it'd take the rest of the day. I wasn't a fan of being on horseback all damn day, but I suppose I'd deal with it. Come to think of it, I don't think I've heard a single word from the woman, Kit. Perhaps she was the quiet type? Ah, well, once this discussion about the estate was done, I could try to get her talking. I glanced back at her and did a quick look-over before facing forward again. Wasn't sure if she noticed as she was busy making hand gestures that looked like she was miming throwing grenades. Maybe we'd have some time to fool around, provided she was interested.

(Kit)Talon laughed and nodded at me. “Yes, you can have some of the grenades. It's a shame we don't have more time, I could have mixed up a few extra. A few more pitch grenades would be useful.” His attention was taken away from me for a moment by Rory and Saris, discussing the plan for us rogues. I did catch Rory saying I would not go for going in tonight, but ignored him after that. I might be getting grenades! Talon smiled and spoke before moving towards Shade. “If we get the extra time, I'll make up a batch of grenades for you.” I returned his smile and moved next to Rory, listening to his discussion with Saris. Oh boy, grenades! (Rory)We were all in agreement, although I had a feeling Saris did not like it. Talon had moved up next to Shade, and was offering him a potion, while Kit moved next to me, a wide smile on her face. Andraste, what was the child up to now? I returned my attention to Saris as he addressed our concerns. "According to the directions I have, we will likely arrive by evening. And as I said, it was my preference that we reach the vault tonight if possible. I do not expect it nor do I demand it, but if you all believe we should wait to make our approach to the vault, then we shall do so." He continued, speaking to Shade this time. "So long as the guards will not be able to report our presence until, at the very least, we have left the estate, then use whatever methods you wish. As I said, I'll leave the specifics up to you." He glanced at Talon. "As for your grenades, I would prefer to keep those in case the alarm is raised and we need a quick exit." Well, sounded like we had everything finalized. We know each other’s skills, and the time to make firm plans before arrival. I looked around at the rest of the party. “Well, since we have a fair distance to go, and time to make plans, reckon we should get on the road?” While waiting for a response, I leaned over and spoke in a low tone to Kit. “Okay, Kit, what mischief have you gotten into now? What were you talking to Talon about that makes you smile so?” She gave me the same smile. Grenades, Rory. He is going to give me grenades! “Grenades…oh wonderful! Since you have never used them before, I’ll have to talk to him about teaching you how to use them, understand? Otherwise, no grenades!” Her smile faded, and she started to cuss me out “under her breath”, her hands barely moving. Well, she would have to listen to Talon, or no grenades!

There wasn't a whole lot of chatting as we rode down the road, but since we'd likely be camped by the estate for a couple nights, we'd probably have enough time to chat then. I only really had a bedroll, but I didn't particularly mind since we wouldn't be hanging around by the estate for all that long. After a while, Saris told us we needed to turn off and head through the forest to get to the estate. I raised my eyebrow at that- my impression of Orlesian nobility was that they were much like magisters, but more showy to disguise their backstabbing, so not having a road to lead towards the estate seemed odd. Though, maybe there was and we weren't going that way since we weren't heading for the front gate. That did make sense, but if Saris couldn't find his way through the woods, we'd have a hell of a time just getting back to the road, let alone finding that estate. Stuff like this was why I preferred cities (on top of the fact that there was much more coin in the cities than in the wilderness). Even through the branches above us it was clear that we were losing daylight and as far as I could tell, there was no estate in sight. At this point, it looked like we were as likely to end up in Seheron as we were to finally get to the damn estate. I rode up to Saris and just as I was about the tear into him for getting us lost, he said, "I believe we're a short walk from the estate now." He hopped off his horse and tied it to a nearby stump, then pulled out a sheet of paper and something I could only describe as some sort of charm, one end glowing and somehow continuously facing the same direction regardless of which direction Saris turned. I rolled my eyes and said, "I'll believe it when I see it..." He looked back at me for a moment before shaking his head. "I'll go on ahead to make sure the estate is nearby, I suggest you all stretch and relax until I return." Then he disappeared through a series of trees and bushes. I groaned inwardly as I hopped off my horse and looked for somewhere to tie it up. Hopefully he was right about the estate being close- I didn't want to keep riding this damn horse anymore today...

It took all my training to keep my face composed as I climbed off Starlight. I held onto the saddle to waylay the stagger I knew would happen if I let go. I pretended to look through my saddle bag while waiting for the world to stop spinning. That bloody knife had obviously gone deeper than I'd realised or maybe it had been coated with something. I needed some privacy to check the wound, so I tethered Starlight, gave her an apple to take the edge of her hunger and pushed through the thick brush. After five minutes I came across a pond stretching roughly 3 miles across, and although the water seemed shallow enough to walk in, it was remarkably clear. With careful movements, I eased out of my tunic and removed the bandage, but the throbbing sensation told me what I'd find even before I'd finished unwrapping the linen strips. The flesh around the wound was red, swollen, and leaking thick green-yellow pus. An infection – wonderful! Just what I needed before a job. With a frustrated sigh, I washed the bandages and with my lip firmly gripped between my teeth I cleaned out the wound.

A/N: Apologies for the long post
With a groan, I dismounted and rubbed my backside. Maker, I needed a bath and a massage and not necessarily in that order, or perhaps both at the same time. I recalled an elf in The Blooming Rose who gave a wonderful all-over body massage. What was his name? I moved Butterscotch over to a tree and the answer came to me while removing my canteen of water. Jethann – as enthusiastic as he was limber, and the biggest blue eyes you could ever dream of, and I'm sure many did. 'Heh, I really should visit that man.' Realising I'd spoken aloud, I glanced around but noticed no one near enough to hear. I took a long drink of water, then rubbed Butterscotch down before feeding him. I wondered if there was a stream nearby as the horses could certainly do with a drink. My tent was easily sorted by carelessly flinging a canvas sheet over a branch. I debated about having something to eat or finding water for Butterscotch; a soulful look from my horse decided what action I should take and off I went to look for a source of water. As luck would have it, I didn't have too far to go, but even luckier than that, I found the grumpy rogue shirtless. My day was improving. However, as I drew closer and saw the ugly red wound, my desire took a backseat in favour of concern. I cleared my throat to let him know I was there; he grabbed his tunic, shot up, and then staggered. Within two strides, I was next to him and steadying him with a hand on his back. A very firm muscular back. No, keep your mind on the wound, Talon. He pulled away, but I grabbed his wrist. 'Look, you can punch me afterwards, but unless you want to spend the next few days laid up with a fever, then you're going to have to let me use magic to heal that wound.' He yanked his arm away, then winced. 'Then I guess I spend a few days resting.' I shrugged. 'Fair enough. Shame you're going to miss out on the job. I mean you could ask Saris to wait for you to heal, but he doesn't strike me as a patient man, at least not in regard to getting this job done.' Shade's jaw tightened as he gritted his teeth. He stared into the water for a moment, his face reflecting the internal struggle taking place. Then he ran a hand through his hair and let out a shaky breath as he reached a decision. 'Fine. Just…' His hands clenched. 'Just make it quick.' I sighed at the blatant disgust in his voice; his whole attitude was starting to wear on me. 'Fine, sit down just in case you feel lightheaded.' He followed my instructions, though with how tense he was, I could see me having to heal a few pulled muscles, too. I laid a hand above the wound, took a moment to prepare myself, then released a flow of magic. This school of magic wasn't my favourite, so I only used it when absolutely necessary. The flesh knitted back together and soon enough the wound was gone. 'There, good as new.' He stood up, moved his shoulder a couple of times then gave a nod before turning away and putting on his tunic. Anger needled me like a sharp splinter. I didn't expect overflowing gratitude but a simple thanks would have been nice. 'You clearly have some bug up your ass when it comes to mages, and apparently, it's affecting your manners.' He turned, silver eyes darkening to the colour of heavy storm clouds. 'A bug up my ass… are you serious? Were you sleeping during 9.37 when a mage blew up half of Kirkwall? Because I wasn't… I was too busy trying to dig my wife and my two children out from under the rubble that used to be my fucking house. So, yes, I do have a problem with mages!' I swallowed hard and stepped back out of range in case he decided to rid the world of one more mage. 'I'm sorry for your loss,' I said. 'But one man's actions shouldn't colour your whole outlook. If I'd let that happen to me then I would hate every person who used a sword, bow, or dagger, because those are the weapons that took my family from me. Every single person, right down to the youngest child was slaughtered before my eyes when the Templars annulled the Circle of Dairsmuid. Do you think because I'm a mage I support what that asshole did in Kirkwall? I too lost everything the day he blew up the Chantry, it just took longer to happen.' Faces flickered through my mind like a never-ending slideshow as I turned and walked away. Anger gave me speed so that I reached camp quickly. I raised my voice for all to hear. 'If you want to water your horses, there's a pond about five minutes away. Just go east,' I said pointing in the direction to clarify. I took Butterscotch by the bridle and led him through the thickets and bushes, making sure to head away from the spot where I'd left Shade. When I reached the pond, he'd already gone. Once Butterscotch had drunk his fill, I returned to camp. To my relief, Shade had set up at the opposite end of the camp. Still seething, I grabbed some jerky and an apple from my saddlebag and sat down to await the return of Saris.

(Kit)The thought of having getting grenades kept my spirits up for a while. I did have to admit Rory was right; Talon would have to tell me the best times to use the grenades. I wondered what they would do…make loud bangs, smoke, maybe even sticky residue. That would be hilarious, guards stuck together! During the ride there was little conversation. Rory and I were used to riding for long periods without “talking”, and the others had little to say. I was glad to get to camp, though; I wanted to get a quick bath in if possible. Maybe Livia would act as guard while I took a bath, and I could do the same for her. I looked around for Livia, and she was talking to Saris, who got off his horse and tied it to a stump. Livia spoke briefly to him as he moved his hands about; I could not see what he was doing. He then disappeared between the trees. What the…? Where was he going? I dismounted, and handed Rory my reins. He would tend to the horses, set up our tents and I would take care of getting the bedding settled and a fire started. It was a routine we had done countless times before. I told him to wait, since Saris had disappeared and I was going to find out where he had gone. I approached Livia, and gestured to the trees Saris had disappeared through. I also put on a confused look, hoping she would interpret it as a question to where Saris had gone. While waiting, I decided to go ahead and ask Livia if she would like to take a bath. I hoped the gestures I made told her what I wanted to do. * (Rory)Kit told me to wait before commencing our camp set up. She wanted to find out where Saris had gone. She approached Livia to ask her. Shade had tied his horse up and disappeared; Talon evidently decided this was where we were going to camp, because he threw a canvas over a branch, then took his horse to evidently find water. I moved next to Talon’s makeshift tent, and decided to wait for Kit before setting up. Most like this was the spot for the camp, but we wanted to be sure. Shade returned, followed shortly by Talon. After a bit, Talon returned. “If you want to water your horses, there's a pond about five minutes away. Just go east.” I debated, then unloaded the horses; I would tend to them, then set up our tents. I had a feeling this was going to be camp. Give me a chance to grab some wood while out. I went to Kit and Livia, telling them what I was planning. “Livia, want me to tend to your horse, since I have to tend to ours?” She gave her assent, and I took the three horses and watered them, grabbing some wood while I waited for them to quench their thirst; before taking up their reins again, I touched my chest…yes, still there. I took the horses, back to camp, tethered and fed them, and began setting up our tents next to Talon’s. *Gestures Kit makes to Livia: Points to both Livia and herself, makes washing motions, pointing towards lake Talon told us about, then stands in a guard position (with both daggers out and looking fierce), then smiles at Livia

Before I could find somewhere to tie up my horse, Kit approached me, motioned to where Saris had disappeared, and then gave me a confused look. I furrowed my brow- she could've just asked me rather than using gestures, right? Before I could respond, Rory showed up with his and Kit's horses in tow, and asked if he could take care of my horse as well. I didn't see the harm in it, and he probably knew more about horses than I ever would, so I shrugged and said, "Sure," and handed him the reins. I looked back at Kit. I wasn't entirely sure what she was trying to say, but I guessed she was wondering where Saris was going. "If you're asking where Saris went, he said he was going to make sure the estate was close." I crossed my arms and looked in the direction he left. "For his sake, it better be. Don't want to have to get back on the damn horse..." I noticed her move out of the corner of my eye, so I looked back at her as she made a series of gestures that I'd have to learn to figure out if I wanted to talk with her. Kaffas, maybe she couldn't talk? Wasn't unheard of, but never thought I'd run into someone with that specific problem. She pointed between herself and me, then made rapid open-handed circles over herself, then pointed towards where Rory had headed off with the horses- Didn't Talon mention a lake that way? For a moment I thought she was asking me to bathe with her, which did sound rather intriguing (I think that the last time I'd done something like that was.... when I was in Highever? Or was it Amaranthine?), but that hope was dashed when she grabbed her daggers and gave a fierce look, much like a guard might (maybe I was too used to guards not trusting me?), then smiled. I made sure to hide my minor disappointment, but then, I wanted to make sure she was saying what I thought she was. "You want me to keep an eye out for you while you're bathing?" She gave a nod and smiled, confirming what I thought. I gave a half-shrug. "Sure, I don't see why not," I glanced around for a moment and saw that everyone other than Saris was accounted for, so no need to worry about wandering eyes- well, beyond my own, that is-, "Let's go." I started heading off in the direction Talon had said the lake was, making sure that Kit was following. Once we were out of earshot of the others at the camp, I figured I may as well see if Kit was interested in more than just bathing. "You know, if you like, I wouldn't particularly mind helping you wash up. We could take turns." I let a sly smile slip, wondering how she'd respond. I had a feeling she could be rather fun.

I ignored the bustle and noise as the group set up their own tents and such; I was in no mood for conversation. Instead, I grabbed what I needed from my pack in order to make potions and grenades. I built a small campfire off to the side of my tent and hoped everyone would catch on that this was for personal use. I didn't want people heating their food or coffee on here. When the flames were hot enough, I pulled out a small pot, filled it with water and hung it over the fire. Once more I delved into my bag and pulled out the various ingredients I would need, along with a mortar and pestle then got to grinding numerous plants and minerals. As I settled into the monotonous task, my mind decided to recall the conversation with Shade which in turn led me to think of the miniature painting he'd had by the side of the bed at the tavern. His wife and two children. Shit! I wanted to hate him as much as he hated mages but how could I when he'd lost everything due to the actions of a mage. The pestle made a grating noise and I looked into the mortar to see that the leaves were now a very fine powder. Damn, I needed to focus, or I was going to be wasting ingredients. I did my best but every now and then images of those I'd lost would mingle with the picture of Shade's family. I finished a batch of regeneration potions and left the filled vials to cool before turning my attention to the grenades. 'Okay, focus, Talon, or there's going to be nothing left of you to go on this job.' I drew in a lungful of air, closed my eyes, immediately the face of Amelia appeared which I resolutely banished as I slowly released my breath. Feeling a bit steadier in myself, I began the task of creating grenades. After an hour, I had twelve smoke grenades, six confusion grenades, and 6 pitch grenades. I split them into six piles in case everyone wanted them. The regeneration potions had cooled, so I corked them and added three to each pile. Realising my water canteen was empty, I grabbed it, then told the camp, 'There are six piles of grenades and potions for each of you if anyone wants them.' I grabbed some soap and a small towel from my pack as the scent of some of the ingredients tended to linger and didn't smell all that pleasant. I saw Shade heading towards my tent and quickly disappeared into the thicket. I really didn't want another encounter with that guy today. OOC: Talon is pretty much unavailable for about 2 hours so best not to interact with him as it will get confusing, however, Shade is still available to talk to. Grenades: They are all this shape, but the confusion grenades are purple, the pitch grenades are black, and the smoke grenades are silver grey. Vials:
